Making Laminated Watercolor Bookmarks

Step by step to make laminated bookmarks

I recently opened my Etsy shop and one of my handmade products are laminated bookmarks.  Each one is unique and an original watercolor painting from my art studio.

I thought it would be fun to share how I make these bookmarks prior to visiting my gallery where several sets are available.

If you don't have a laminator you might want to consider getting one, I use mine often for protecting certain papers or making garden markers.  I have that fun project in my new book, Garden Up Green.

But let's get back to these bookmarks because they are pure sweetness!

Beginning to laminate

Supply List & Getting Started

It's pretty obvious that I am laminating my watercolor art to make these bookmarks.  You could really create anything including using photographs or just take construction paper and cut shapes.  Get creative!

Once you have something together, insert your project into a laminating pouch.  Then heat up your scotch laminator so we can move onto the next step.

Laminate Your Project

When the blue light turns on your laminator is heated and ready to use.  If you have never used one of these before I would recommend doing a test sheet first.  This will give you an idea of how the machine works.

Load from the top and the protective sleeve will slowly move through the machine and come out from the bottom front.  They will be warm so allow them to cool for just a couple of minutes.

Trimming laminated bookmarks

Trim Your Bookmarks

This next step is an easy one as we simply trim around the edges of your bookmark. I used a sharp pair of scissors because I want to make sure I don't cut into my actual project.

At this point you can leave the bookmark as is and enjoy or you could add a few details like I have done.

Adding a few details to complete these watercolor bookmarks.

Adding Details and Etsy

The final details are a quick hole punch at the top and a little ribbon or twine is added by casting off in a simple knot.

If you do not have the time to make a project such as this, I get it.  So, take a minute to visit my Etsy shop where I have multiple sets of two available at a reasonable price.  All bookmarks are original watercolors painted in the comfort of my art studio.

Be the good,
