If you live in Texas, then you know we are covered in clay. Don't believe me? Get a shovel, start digging and you will see what I am referring to.
We have multiple varieties of this fine grained material across the state. I am fascinated by this because many of our natural resources have multiple abilities.
I believe that was all part of God's plan and what a joy when creatives like John Delafield can turn this resource into art.
Meet John
I met John earlier this month in Jefferson, Texas while he was selling his hand crafted pottery. Now retired he resides in Atlanta, a neat little town in the East.
We had a pleasant conversation and I enjoyed listening to how some of these pieces came about.
Each design is unique and to me they express a character that replicates nature through shape and color. The glaze details are simply fantastic.
When he isn't creating he spends additional hours traveling with his pottery from one show to another. It is rare to meet someone who is humbled about their skill with a joy to share.
Bowls, Mugs and Jugs
Everything was beautifully displayed but I will tell you, I couldn't get past the glazing process. It was so cool, the finish felt like a river flowing or a lake standing still in time.
I was reminded of almost every place I have ever lived and I love that. Which means I couldn't make a decision until I returned home and started looking back at the images on my phone.
I wanted something that would complement one of my favorite things this time of year, flowers.
Specifically the flowers that grow in my garden.
Delafield Floral Vases
You could say what I am after is one of the "Delafield floral vases." Specifically this one or something similar because the colors are understated with a positive vibe.
It was such a pleasure to meet John Delafield. His keen eye for color is displayed beautifully in each piece of pottery that can be used everyday.
Encouraging Goodness,
Carole West
