In the early days, much of my life was centered around time spent with my grandmother. She was a character with a big heart and through listening I recognized how to navigate life with deeper meaning.
It has taken years to unfold what she was hoping to instill, I guess some lessons need to rest before they can take root.
This reminds me of a small seed, some sprout in a matter of days. others germinate in a few weeks and many just do nothing at all.
If you think of trees, they first have a stratification process and yet some of those seeds are gathered to provide food for animals.
To me, this is what having faith looks like, we are all aware of what that word means but yet if you ask folks from different backgrounds and geographical areas you will get completely different answers.
One of the things my grandmother was always sharing was the power of prayer. I would have a problem and she would quietly say, "the dear Lord is always with us, so let's pray about it."
Handwritten Prayers
She would write simple prayers on pieces of paper with the date or year and tuck them in places or send them to family and friends.
I don't know if these were things she found in a magazine or newspaper, or if they were words she came up with on her own.
These notes were comforting and most recently I came across this prayer about friendship in Jesus.
Best Friend in Jesus Prayer
I love this prayer because it speaks to the simple truth our heart desires. We are designed to believe in goodness, in Jesus and the message of truth.
Perhaps you will find comfort in this beautiful prayer my grandmother shared with me in 1995.
Jesus I need a friend as I journey through this life. Right now I'm asking you to be my best friend and to keep the beatitudes (Matthew 5: 3-12) flowing through my mind.
I am going to be happy today, though the skies are cloudy and gray, no matter what comes my way.
I am going to be happy today.
In my own words, Faith is about growing in Jesus Christ.
Encouraging goodness,
