Gentleness is a reflection of kindness but the word itself
is an action and involves cultivating a heartfelt softness towards others.
Gentleness is another piece of the fruit of the spirit towards authentic
living.
In the Old Testament specifically in the book of Isaiah, gentleness is compared to a stream or flowing river. It is also mentioned as caring for the flock. A flock is a group of animals such as lambs.
When I think of gentleness my first two thoughts are Jesus and streams of water. I have always enjoyed sitting on the bank watching rivers flow, a pond or lake ripple and I especially like being on a boat watching waves crash against time.
The water is always changing and this movement is based on temperature. When things heat up it remains still like a wise man and when temperatures cool it shifts like a weak man. If we could remain gentle in both instances, we would be a better people.
Christ brought a gentleness to this earth that we should all want to experience. Gentleness comes from a state of humility, this is a lack of pride or arrogance. It is a place of just wanting to do good without recognition.
This is why "Christ" is my first thought when I hear the word gentleness. He never allowed the actions of others to harden his heart and he never allowed anyone to separate or divide his beliefs.
He simply did good without the need or desire for recognition.
Those who lack gentleness are often prideful and easy to upset. These same people can often feel a need to seek revenge; some call it karma. I believe at some point we have all had these feelings.
If we were to take the negative energy and pray it away, we could begin cultivating our hearts into authentic actions of gentleness. It is possible if we act, we could witness a "United States of America" once again.
You can choose to be wise or weak, but you must understand that unity takes effort. I would rather move towards the example of Christ who is authentic living in gentleness.
See the good,
Carole
