It's the end of summer and my energy is feeling revived with good ideas for a thriving fall garden.
This energy sort of sprung after writing an article for Seeds from Italy. A family-owned business out of Kansas that sells Franchi seeds.
I planted most of my beds this year with their product and I experienced an incredible growing season.
So, I purchased more seeds and since the beds were full, I had to decide what would stay and what would go.
This was relatively easy to figure out as some plants have reached their peak. Others required trimming and many times if you release the weight they will revive by adding natural fertilizer when you water.
Fall gardening begins in July here but I usually wait for August. I spread it out over a two week period to keep from getting overwhelmed.
It has been hot and humid so prior to my order arriving prep work was taking place in the early morning.
My order arrived in record time.
Seeds From Italy for Fall
It's easy to shop with Seeds of Italy and their inventory is grand. Think of them as a one stop shop for Italian goodness.
I tried to keep things
simple but it was difficult until I remembered I had leftover seeds.
All of which included broccoli, bok choy, parsley,
beets and leeks.
So, this is what my fall additions looked like.
I grew up eating a lot of Cicoria so I am excited about this addition.
It was a favorite of grandmas because it added flavor and color to a salad loaded with garlic, olive oil and vinegar.
This is the fun part and when I see new sprouts, I am like a kid on Christmas morning.
I have no doubt the fall garden will be thriving as we roll into September and I can hardly wait.
I will tell you that gardening our food in raised beds has been such a blessing.
I am thinking every gardener might say this after each planting season, thankfully I have the time to make it happen.
Waiting for Germination
Everything has been directly sowed and my garden
activity is centered on watering as I wait for germination to begin.
This is the fun part and when I see new sprouts, I am like a kid on Christmas morning.
I imagine you can relate
because that is the beauty of gardening, where there is joy there is growth for all.
I have no doubt the fall garden will be thriving as we roll into September and I can hardly wait.
How is your garden, doing? Are you planted for Fall or still just thinking about it?
I will tell you that gardening our food in raised beds has been such a blessing.
I realized when removing those tired annuals became necessary, it was also time to add just a few more beds.
I am thinking every gardener might say this after each planting season, thankfully I have the time to make it happen.
Be the good,
Carole West
