Old-fashioned is a polite way of saying something is no longer common. There is this idea that new is better and many times "new" can be convenient and good while offering a positive outcome.
I do take note there are exceptions as I tend to hold onto the old -fashioned way of doing certain things. My favorite would be the roasting of marshmallows over an open fire.
We are always burning and after several weekends of clearing land with my husband, we accumulated some very large piles.
Eight in total and we were waiting for the weather to play in our favor before igniting each one. We spent a full Saturday from sunup to sundown burning.
We were successful and it was awesome to see our progress, but as we rolled into the late afternoon all I could think about was the taste of an old-fashioned smores.
I envisioned roasting marshmallows with a branch over calm flames, thinking what a perfect reward to a long day.
I shared this with my husband, mentioning that I haven't had a smores in years.
In minutes, I was off to the store for ingredients while he stayed keeping an eye on things.
It has probably been a good 10 years since we made smores and at 57 it was the most delightful treat. A neat reminder there is no shame in celebrating success the old-fashioned way.
It was a moment that brought back neat memories and was the perfect end to what we call a great day of clearing land.
Enjoy the simple things and never overlook the old-fashioned way of doing things. They have a way of warming our heart and keeping life full.
Encouraging Goodness,
Carole West
