What's Your Flower

Identifying the beauty of flowers and what they mean to you through the years.

When I was a young girl most of the flowers I connected with grew on trees.  Every year they would mature just a little more and their blossoms would cover the landscape.  My Nana in the countryside had lilacs and my grandmother in town had a little bit of everything growing in her yard.

To me, flowers held a quiet story, one that could only be circulated to the person watching.  If I could sit just long enough to watch them bloom their adventure would appear in front of me.

I still love flowers; at times they almost signified my spirit with a sense of meaning.

Finding your flower and how it represents life.

My Flowers

The first flower that I called my own, was the dandelion.  I know it's a weed but when you are young choices are simpler and nobody gets upset when you pick a bouquet of dandelions.

I didn't have many friends so these flowers sort of became my companions.  They were in abundance and allowed my imagination to run wild.

For me this flower purifies the circle of life, with every wish more flowers bloom later.  I gravitated towards dandelions defending them as my own and so did the honey bees.

They are resilient, healing and the fulfillment of a wish, the flower nobody wanted and yet they were everywhere.

The Tulip

As I became a teenager the tulip caught my attention.  Such a carefree bloom and where I grew up the fields were planted in a variety of colors.  This beauty represents lasting love and new beginnings.

This was at a time when I was beginning to find my great escape through writing and sketching.

I looked forward to every spring with hope and goodness. The tulip carried me through until I was introduced to the Casa Blanca Lily.

The Casa Blanca

Casa Blanca and I were introduced in floral school.  It was love at first sight, poise and classic with the scent of an angel.  This lily made a statement as if to say, "I've got this" and I liked that.

They offered clarity and since I was heading into the field of floral design I knew my creative desires would be fulfilled.   We crossed paths almost weekly in style where joy and hope allowed me to thrive.

I connected with this flower for many years through gratitude.

Through out my life, I had this way of pairing with certain flowers to help me stay in check.  It was almost a way to track my growth regardless of what the world around me was thinking.

How age has brought me to connect with the Dogwood bloom.

What's Your Flower

Now as a mature woman I find my favorite flower shifting to something with a bot of grit. I united with the dogwood which brings me back to the trees.

I love trees, especially the way the limbs bend and how the bark appears with detail over time.  They are story tellers and I planted fifteen last fall on our property.

I chose to include the dogwood throughout my blog because I find they honor where I am at.  It's pretty straight forward, always renewing through strength, love and his grace.

Have you ever thought about what your flower might be?  It's interesting when we open our heart, how the simplicity of flowers can speak to our personality.
