Healing Through Watercolor Painting

Have you ever been in such a hurry that you made a "stupid mistake" that caused an injury?  This happened to me earlier this month when I wounded my right hand.

Life shifted in a matter of seconds placing me on a path of healing.  Multiple stitches later and the use of only one hand, life came to a complete stop.

The first week was rough, emotional and completely draining...

But thankfully I am left-handed, so instead of focusing on the negative, I decided my watercolor painting would be comforting.

Using watercolor painting to heal from an injury

In the Beginning

Much like this painting, in the beginning I was all over the place.  The pain was continuous and spiraled at different times.

Some days were worse than others but I found when I sat to paint my wounded hand relaxed.  I chilled out and before I knew it an hour or two had passed.

I pushed through part of the day working on simple techniques by splashing paint on paper.  This helped lift my spirits as I celebrated the ability to paint.

The moments of healing blend like the flow of watercolor

Reflect and Wait

The flow of blending color allowed me to reflect on my feelings as I waited for healing to take shape.  The process has been slow, but I realized a few things.
    • One being that it's time for me to slow down.
    • To stop working so hard and work smarter.
    • Time for me to take my watercolor painting more seriously.
    • Spend more time creating what I love about watercolor.
Reflecting has been almost daily and with a few more weeks of mending I can resume some of my outdoor activities.

With a heavy sigh... I am okay with that...

Feeling Thankful

Most of all I am thankful that my right hand will regain full capacity with time and natural healing.

It's easy to forget that our hands are a gift; just think about the years they have carried us through everything.

From the beginning of this accident I have been reminded of the strength our hands provide.

Through God's grace, I have recognized this ordeal could have been much worse

For those of you who have prayed for me, THANK YOU!

I feel so grateful that I can spend time healing through watercolor painting.

Encouraging Goodness,
