Music is a comforting melody; this is especially true when listening to artists from a multitude of generations. As early as I can remember, music has been part of my life in some form.
It has this way of helping celebrate a mood whether it be happy or sad. With a collection of CDs stretching from the 50's to present day, good vibes are restored with every play.
The ones that really stand out seem to have a connection beyond their voice. They are the ones who bring in the instrumental and compose their sound with a lift into paradise.
Years ago, I learned how to play a few of these contraptions like the piano and flute. I remember the moment a connection was made through reading sheet music, it was like diving into a code of bliss.
For a time, I thought about learning how to write music. It was an idea that never took flight and faded while I moved towards something else.
I found myself drawn to words and creating art; music became my companion. An ensemble that helped celebrate the joy of life and this continues to hold true.
Music Began at Home
Like you, I can imagine your history with music started in the comfort of home. For me it was through radio, records and a tambourine. After a few shakes, I decided it would work better as a drum.
We also had a piano and later I was directed towards lessons. I loved to sit and play, not necessarily from sheet music just dancing my fingers across the keys to find a melody that expressed feeling.
That fizzled when I decided to play the flute. An instrument that brought me to tears because in the beginning it was difficult.
Unwilling to give up, I stuck with it and played in the high school band. This is where I embraced an appreciation for sheet music and quietly thrived.
I loved how every instrument had its place and through practice their sound came together with grace. It was in these years when I discovered a variety of music and this connection heavily influenced my art.
The most difficult decision came when I let go of band so I could take art class. It didn't seem fair that I had to choose but that's how things were set up.
Music Celebrates Living
With no regrets the decision to choose art over music class was positive. I recognized it was a gift that served its purpose and instead of playing I would always be listening.
Many years later I continue this journey with every purchase. There is something grand about opening a new CD and listening from beginning to end.
This is where good has a way of resurfacing our day with meaning and with the right melody a purpose. Find your harmony in music and let it celebrate your life.
