Homestead Blend Spice Recipe

Combination of dried herbs, spice and parmesan to make every day cooking easier and tasty.

I love to cook especially when I have a combination of fresh herbs and spice handy.  You just can’t beat a homecooked meal if it’s prepared with quality ingredients.

I grew up with homecooked meals and both of my parents worked, they actually had their own businesses, and we always ate at home.

Sitting around the dinner table sharing conversations about our day while eating good food was a daily occurrence and everybody was invited. This time forced us to slow down, reconnect and just be nice to one another.

When we raised our family, I kept with that tradition going and prepared home cooked meals that we enjoyed by sitting around the table. It was a daily reminder of our blessings and an avenue to show my family how much I love them.

Sometimes I just didn’t have the words to express that unconditional love. I remember this being a time just to sit and listen to the kids tell Robert about their day.

But I realize people are busy and, in most homes, both parents are working so quite often I hear others say that there is no time to cook.  Life is just too busy!

Well to be perfectly honest, you have to make the time and implement some key things that help move along meal prep at a faster pace.

I’ve actually found that cooking at home is faster than eating out, it’s also less expensive and it's healthier. Which brings me to my homestead blend spice recipe.

I normally cook with fresh herbs on a regular basis but as we’re now into fall and winter is right around the corner, I like to have spice mixes available.

This homestead blend is one I made using my favorites ingredients, and I prep meals with it often.  I will refer to again in future recipes here on the blog so make sure to save it.

If you don’t grow fresh herbs that you can dry, then you can purchase them in jars at your local grocery store.  You can also purchase online in bulk and jars, one of my favorite herbal companies is, Frontier Co-op and I also like Mountain Rose Herbs.

Mix and store homestead blend and use for later.

Homestead Blend Spice Ingredients

      • 1/2 cup dried basil
      • 1/2 cup dried oregano
      • 1/2 cup dried parsley
      • 1/4 cup dried minced garlic
      • 1/4 cup red pepper flakes
      • 1/4 cup grated parmesan (fine like powder)
Take all of your ingredients and pour them into a bowl and mix. Once they are blended taste because you may want to add more pepper or garlic.  Everyone has a unique tolerance when it comes to spice and I’m one who embraces “flavor” so you may find with my measurements, more dried herbs are required to calm down the spice.

Once you're happy with the combination store in a sealed container. I like to use glass jars and place on the counter for quick access, but they would also be handy sitting on the counter in an organized pantry.
Enjoy this homestead blend spice and come back later this week where I’ll be sharing my all-time favorite instant pot chicken recipe using this blend.

See the Good,

Carole
