When you live a quiet life filled where dragonflies are present, each day offers something new and interesting.
They sweep over the ponds, swarm through the tall
grass and our land becomes their homestead.
Staying for hours they twirl in the garden where I can watch them up close enjoying their beautiful details.
I instantly understand
what they bring to our swampy environment and watching their activity is never dull.
Dragonflies are wonderful and I am grateful they show up to eat the not-so-great insects.
Our time together has inspired a new watercolor collection where my afternoons have been spent in the studio putting ideas onto paper.
This piece was originally a test subject. But when I shared it with my husband he said, “Hold on you
have something here.”
There it was, just the right encouragement I needed. So I added a few more details and decided it was a
keeper.
But not a keeper for me…
I decided to donate this piece for an upcoming event by the Art league of Marshall. When I
have more details, I will mention them in my newsletter.
To make this donation complete I had to get this impression framed. Not a big deal, I just needed to drive to the Marshall Hobby Lobby where Rylan assisted with mat colors and framing.
He was a great help and his attention to color was quite impressive. I mention this because there are few people who make an effort to put things together with a sense of connection.
These colors were spot on, and the frame reminds me of the pin oak trees near our garden.
Perhaps
my next theme will be centered on trees?
For now, all that is left is to write a little something about these dragonflies, place it on the back and pass it off at our next gathering.
I love adding written details to a piece of art because it creates a connection. One that began from the land where the dragonflies never get tired of visiting.
Excitement is the best word to describe the art surfacing in this new collection. I should have all ten pieces completed by the end of the year.
Be the good,
Carole West
