Swamp Inspired Watercolor Dragonflies

Watercolor painting collection from artist Carole West

When you live a quiet life where dragonflies are present, each day offers something new and interesting.

They sweep over the ponds, swarm through the tall grass and our land becomes their homestead.  For hours, they twirl in the garden where I watch up close to enjoy their beautiful details.

I instantly understand what they bring to our swampy environment and their activity is never dull.

Our time together has inspired some of my recent paintings. This piece was originally a test subject.  But when I shared it with my husband, he said, “Hold on, you have something here.”

There it was, just the right encouragement I needed.  So, I added more details and decided it was a keeper.

But not a keeper for me…

I used Hobby Lobby to get my art framed.

I decided to donate this piece for an upcoming event by the Art league of Marshall.  When I have more details, I will mention them in my newsletter.

To make this donation complete I had to get this impression framed.  Not a big deal, I just needed to drive to the nearest Hobby Lobby where Rylan assisted with mat colors and framing.

He was a great help and his attention to color was quite impressive.  I mention this because there are few people who make an effort to put things together with a sense of connection.

These colors were spot on, and the frame reminds me of the pin oak trees near our garden.

Perhaps my next piece will be centered on trees?

For now, all that is left is to write a little something about these dragonflies, place it on the back and pass it off at our next gathering.

The written details create a connection, one that began in our swamp land where the dragonflies swarm.

Encouraging goodness,
Carole West
