The Art League of Marshall Texas

A group of local artists in the marshals Texas area.

A few months ago, I decided to join the Art League of Marshall.  I wasn’t sure what to expect, nor was I certain if this was even a good idea.

I had connected with the President, Laura Merril a few years ago.  I was at an art fair where her creativity caught my attention.  Five years later we meet again.

After attending my first ALM meeting I realized it felt good to be surrounded by creative people and becoming a member has been motivating.

I recently sat down with Laura at The Hive, a cute coffee house located in downtown Jefferson.  If you haven’t been this is a neat, cozy destination.

We were there for quite a while, talked about many things and it was great.  I enjoyed listening to her connection with the community and the vision for this league.

Laura is a joy and has an energy that lights up a room.  She also knows how to delegate which is the sign of a good leader.

The League has doubled their membership in the last year; this tells me they are doing something right towards connecting with local artists.

Members are from all generations which is fantastic because this brings forwards many different styles of art.

So, if your gift is to create and you might be looking for a place to connect here are just a few things ALM offers.

Each month they team up with local shops in Marshall where “league members” can display or sell a piece of their art.  I finally participated in one of these and it felt good.

I will admit, putting myself out there was a little scary, but when you see other people taking action it quietly encourages you to do the same.

The Art League of Marshall provides additional opportunities and monthly meetings.  These gatherings offer demonstrations, tools and tips to benefit members.

You can get all the details on their website and make sure to follow on Facebook and Instagram.  I believe this league has a bright future.

Meet friendly people creating in a variety of mediums who enjoy sharing the gift they have been blessed with.

Encouraging goodness,

Carole West
