Get Out of Your Head Book Review

A great read for growing your faith and stopping the spirt of toxic thoughts

About a month ago my husband and I were in Hobby Lobby at the checkout.  The line was long, and I get antsy waiting for my turn.  So, this is when I browse the checkout displays.

I bet you do the same and in this particular aisle there were books.   Robert pointed towards, “Get out of Your Head” by Jennie Allen.

At first, I looked at him with a bit of sarcasm and then turned away to pick it up.  I thought, who doesn’t love a good read and I like Jennie Allen her energy for Jesus is grand.

But I will tell you, as I started to read this book it hit closer to home than I wanted to admit.

Get the toxic thoughts out of your head

Stopping the Spiral

The premise is getting those toxic thoughts out of your head.  You know the ones that make you doubt and question everything.

The thoughts that quite frankly can cause us to self-sabotage.  Jennie breaks this book down into three parts and asks some pretty rough questions.

This book helped me reflect on many of my own difficult situations.

What's Inside

    • Part One dives into thoughts, where they come from and how to make sense of them through scripture.  This section is more of her story, but it was helpful.
    • Part Two is where it gets interesting, taking down the enemies of our mind.  This section breaks down part one and its gold.  I appreciated the multiple references to Paul’s teachings especially since I had spent most of the summer rereading the New Testament.  The scriptures were fresh, allowing me to quickly grasp what she was communicating.
    • Part Three is simply beautiful, thinking as Jesus thinks.  As Christians we hear this but when the enemy strikes the struggle of tug and war often wins.  Jesus always trusted our heavenly father, and we should be doing the same.
What caught my attention through the whole book was this simple word, “community.”  But not in the sense how most people walk through life thinking of this word.  You will need to read more to completely understand why this word spoke to me so deeply.

It was obvious Jenne put her soul into this book and there is an abundance of goodness from cover to cover.  Get Out of Your Head is a great read.

Encouraging Goodness,
Carole West
